Office update deployment erroneously detecting as failed

Hello everyone. I was making my first attempt at deploying Windows and Office updates using the K1000 appliance and for the most part everything went well. I do however have 1 update that the deploy schedule shows as failed even though it looks like the update installed correctly.

The update I'm trying to install is MS16-054 Security Update for Microsoft Office 2010 32-Bit Edition (KB3101520) and when trying to install it manually I receive a message saying that the update is already installed. My detect schedule still shows that I need it, but the deploy script fails to install it every time. I tried uninstalling the update and re-running a detect and deploy, but it still shows the deployment failed according to KACE, and the update did show up again in my list of updates. I even compared file versions of what the patch was supposed to install and everything looks like it installed properly, but the KACE appliance still shows that it's needed and failing to install. Has anyone ever seen this before? Thanks in advance for your time.

Edit - I should also mention that I found an error in the Application event log that seems to coincide with the "failed" deployment attempt. I have an EventID - 1 with the WSH as the source and the message is as follows.

PLUS DEPLOYMENT: Error

File Name: mpas-fex64.exe

INSTALL:
An error was returned from the MSI Installer while install the patch.
Error Returned: -2147023728

  • Can you run the kapturestate on one of those systems that's having the issue and attaching the KAGENT.log after running the patch job and doing the kapturestate?
