Preload remote Replication Shares

Is it possible to preload a remote replication share from an external hard drive or DVD instead of copying all the files through the VPN or WAN connections. We are on a metered connection, so this could get expensive for the initial loading of the replication servers.
I would copy the folder and files from a local replication share and copy them exactly to the destination replication share.
Will this work?

Yes. The agents who download from the share don't know (or care) how it got there. They just need permissions to access it in the same file-naming format and folder structure it would have when the replicating agent copies it down. Copying from an existing share is a great template!
