Remove Access 97 from Office 97
Hi,
I have been tasked with trying to remove Access from PC's with Office 97 pro.
We have just noticed that we have a few more Office Pro's installed than we have licences for. To make them Office standard we just need to uninstall Access.
I use Wise packager normally with Altiris Deployment, but cannot think of a way round this. Even thought maybe Installrite might be just as good.
Has anyone else done this before?
Steve.

Nick,
Thanks for replying. Im fairly new to this and learning on the job. Unfortunately the installs were done before we had Altiris and from different media, so one problem I will face is that it will not see the original source files.
How do I do a maintenance install? Do I just do a capture of Office 97 Pro and then create an MST that removes Access?
Dont really want to uninstall, reinstall, but it may come to that.
Thanks again,
Steve.

There's a ton of stuff on MS's site about removing Access. One article suggests the 'remove Office and re-install without Access' route whilst another details which files you remove. The latter does not, of course, fix the license details in the registry which will still show 'Office Professional' instead of 'Office Standard' in Help/About.
It's eons since I dealt with Office 97 but is it even an MSI-based install? I thought it was ACMESETUP-driven? I forget...
If it is, surely Access has a feature name? Can you not specify that feature's removal? For example, if it's called 'MSACCESS', wouldn't 'REMOVE=MSACCESS' on an MSIExec command line remove it? Again, the license thing presents itself but this route has to be a lot simpler than file-by-file removal?

Bit of a change of plan. I now need to completely remove Office 97 Pro and then reinstall with Office 97 Standard. This is on a mixture of Win 98 and Win XP, more on XP.
I have had a go with Wise Capture, but I dont seem to be able to do that. I have also had a go with Installrite and have had some success. Needs more testing though.
And no it doesnt come as an MSI package.
Real cutting edge stuff.
Thanks,
Steve.
