SQL Server 2008 R2

Hi all,

I am trying to deploy SQL server. I used the command line method to install the app

exe /QS /ACTION=INSTALL / Features=BIDS,CONN

The application asks for a reboot in between the installtion, and I need to install the exe again with the same command line after the reboot for the installation to complete .

Is there a way I can work with this. how will users install the first time, and then reboot and then install again for the SQL Server

Thanks

Make sure you're on SQL Server 2008 R2, Try this:

- Run the setup.exe

- On Installation Tab> New Installation

- Go through the Wizard by Entering the product key, accept license, install setup support files and select all the features that you need.

- Until you reach the 'Ready to Install' page, look below for the ConfigurationFile.ini path, copy this file and paste in your local folder or a network share where you want to run UNATTENDED installation.

- Now, cancel this current installation and Edit this ConfigurationFile.ini

Set the following parameters:

QUIET="True"

SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="BUILTIN\ADMINISTRATORS"

PID="Product License Key"

IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS="True"

==================================

ADDCURRENTUSERASSQLADMIN - delete this line

UIMODE - delete this line

INSTALLSHAREDDIR - delete this line

INSTALLSHAREDWOWDIR - delete this line

INSTANCEDIR - delete this line

==================================

FEATURES= (select your features here - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144259.aspx#Feature)

- Create a batch file, SilentInstallSQL2008R2.bat, with the following parameters:

@ECHO off

echo Installing SQL Server 2008 R2

date/t

time /t

"<path to SQL setup folder>\setup.exe" /ConfigurationFile="<path to config file>"

date/t

time /t

Thanks for the reply. I tried that.
I still have the same issue. When I run the command prompt as you mentioned. In the same command prompt it says
"one of the prerequisites installed requires a reboot. Restart the computer and rerun the SQL Server 2008 R2 setup inorder to continue. SQL server 2008 R2 software pre-requisites have been installed and require a restart"

Please advice

  • Is there a way I can suppress the reboot. and run the installation. - shamu99 12 years ago
  • 1) if pre-req is giving reboot command then first suppress in the pre-req, isolate it from the SQL Server.
    2) TRY Passing the Property REBOOT=ReallySuppress - er.hsingh 12 years ago

I was able to install now, without the reboot in between the install. It was updating the windows installer and then initiated for a reboot on a clean machine.

But even after I use the the silent keys QS, there is a window open showing the installtion.It not a interactive screen though, where I need to click next - next. Still the installtion progress is seen.

Is there a key to make it completely silent.
