Uninstalling LimeWire

Hey folks....

I'm very knew to the KBOX and still learning.

I got 11 student laptops showing several versions of LimeWire installed. I'm thinking I can setup my KBOX 1100 to uninstall these programs.

Maybe some of you out there have done this??

Thanks!

I haven't done this with Limewire, but you can certainly setup a KScript or custom deployment to run the Uninstall command in the registry (same as using Add/Remove programs). Is your company completely new to the KBOX? If so, have you done the JumpStart yet? This sounds like a great walkthrough for a JumpStart.

You can create a filter to assign these laptop a label, that will identify them as having limewire. then you could assign a script (like the one airwolf said) to the label, that will unistall limewire.

After it gets uninstaller Kbox will automatically remove the label.

You could even create reports to email you the names of these people, for your own reference.

You can use the Un-Installer Wizard to help create the script. It can be found in the Scripting section under the Configuration Policy tab. A separate script can be created for each version of Limewire.

We have a laptop program here and I have tried to un-install Limewire and similar software. The problem is that I can't find a silent install. Whenever the un-install script starts, it asks the user if they want to un-install it. They always say "No." I did set the kbox to email me a report of everyone that has it installed. From that report I give large numbers of demerits every week until it is removed. They eventually get the picture.

If there is no method for silently uninstalling Limewire, you can create an AutoIt or VB script to kill the process and remove all traces of the program. Users can't say "no" to a script run under the local SYSTEM account. [;)]
