Visual Studio Code isn't showing up as installed for some devices, but it is visible in the processes

I've got a few users who use Visual Studio Code in my organization and I was reviewing their versions in response to a recent security issue.  I only found 6 of the close to 10 users who have VSC installed.  All the users have VSC showing in Apps & Programs as well as Control Panel, so I'm not sure why KACE wouldn't show this as an installed program?

There are three "installers" for Visual Studio Code.

  • User Installer - Installs to the user's profile folder
  • System Installer - Installs for all users
  • Zip file - Doesn't install, you just run the binary

I tested the SMA behavior by installing the User Installer on my system and the SMA does not detect it as installed. I'm betting that if you look at your mystery computers you will find that the executable is in the user's profile and not in Program Files.

  • That's it! I thought I had installed them all as user, but the ones I can see were installed with the System installer.

Any idea why I wouldn't be seeing VSC patches in my catalog? - tjethington 4 years ago
    • Not all products are in the catalog. I'm pretty sure if you enter a support ticket to request it be added they will look into it. - chucksteel 4 years ago
