Systems Management

I am using my new 160gb ata hard drive to install windows XP home, the drive is partitioned so the whole 160gd is the primary active partion. It doesn't seem to work... I am running through the set-up, then it gets to where it says "set-up is starting windows" and it briefly gets to the screen where it says what size of the disk do you want to use for windows and it powers the computer off.

I know there is nothing wrong with the CD because it is a legal paid for version, and I have also tried many other install disks that have worked previously. I also know the hard drive isn't the issue as I have just installed Kubuntu, a linux distro on it and it works fine.

Can someone offer a reasonable suggestion to get it working? I want a dual boot, but windows must be installed first.
