WISE snapshot from network
Hi,
Does WISE provide any facility to capture repackaging snaphot from a shared location on network. I know installshield has this option where Repackager.exe and files can be copied to a network location and can be executed for snapshots. This makes the snapshot process very clean as compared to WISE where we are currently installing the complete software on the clean machine and then run the snapshot.
Has anyone managed to run the snapshot / monitor from a network location, then it will be extremely helpful if you can share your approach.

When installing WPS you can choose between server or client.
Install server on another client/server and the "wise package studio" & "wise share point" will be shared.
During install of client you will point to these the above share.
When you run WPS on the client it will run from the share and not locally from the client.

Does this mean that I will not have to install any client components of WISE on a vanilla machine during repackaging snapshot?
Also do you know the snapshot exe in WISE which launches the setup capture wizard?

You have to install at least Wise Package Studio as a Network Client. However there's technically no reason not to do so. You won't get any Wise Stuff in your Capture because it's in the Exclusion List already.
To start the SetupCapture tool manually do the following:
"C:\Program Files\Altiris\Wise Package Studio\Workbench\Workbench.exe" /tool="SetupCapture"

You are right. I will have to install the minimum client components with the license information. Otherwise the workbench.exe throws an invalid license error.
But still network install is much more cleaner than a Local client. Also the command line provided worked quite well. FYI, I found that the setupcapture can also be launched using <Path to>\WiseScript Editor\Wise32.exe /r command line.
One more question as we are on same subject - How do you manage the WPS client installation on Vanilla XP machines everytime you take a setup capture? I am assuming that for every new setup capture you would use a clean Vanilla machine / VM.
The only way we do is to install the WPS client components to the base image of Vanilla VM and re image the VM / undo disks to get a cleaner image everytime.
