compressed image sizes and deployment question...
Hello, I'm new here and relatively new to creating Ghosted images. I've thus far created 3 seperate images (using Ghost 7.5) of Dell Latitude D600s and GX270s (2k and XP). Each of my images at high compression works out to be 1.1-1.3 gbytes in size...this seems a little on the large side. The installed Apps themselves are taking up about 3.5 - 4 gbytes of space and the rest of the partition is empty. Is there anyway to make it smaller in size?
I'd like to create a bootable CD to deploy to remote locations, with the Image on the disc so they can boot it up from that, browse to the local .gho (on the disk) and let it do its thing. Is this even possible or am I asking too much here?

image compression really only greatly matters if you are utilizing say a parallel transfer, or a 10mbps type network; although I tend to utilize"fast". As far as your image size goes, I would run defrag on the "Master" machine prior to syspreping it

Ghost only "grabs" actual data, not empty space, which helps reduce image size. My bare XP SP2 image is slighly over 1GB mainly due to the SP1 restore files being saved in case it needs to be rolled back[:@].
I usually burn these larger images to a bootable DVD and image systems in that manner. You also may want to consider using GhostCAST as you can image several machines in 10-15 minutes. Our current record is 60 tablets being imaged in 13 minutes using a 6.5GB image from the server (fast compression).
FYI: Imaging down will take longer also when using high compression.
