I am having trouble imaging devices after resetting Samba Share password

I've reset the Samba Share password, and now we can't image devices. I downloaded the KBE from Deployments>Boot Environment again, and created a new USB, but still getting the password error.

Please generate a new KBE with KBE Manipulator.

  • I've never heard of KBE Manipulator, is that a Quest software? - isaac.ironwing 1 year ago

The samba share password is stored within the KBE, so if this has changed the build will not be able to access the samba share area to complete.

Once you have reset the password you will need to rebuild your KBE, using the media manager application is the easiest way to do this.

Also please note, in this world of increasing security, that special characters cannot be used in the samba share password, just in case you are using a password generator to create a password

  • Yea, I was on with Quest support for a couple of hours yesterday. Will likely be on with them this morning. We reset the password multiple times.

Figured out once I installed ADK and SDA Media Manager on another machine, I could upload a new KBE and successfully connect the SDA Media Manager. I was able to do all of this previously, but got stuck trying to upload the KBE (password issue). When I got this far with a new machine I created the key, tried to image the device, but got the same password issue. I should add we made sure that there are no special characters in any of the password changes. - isaac.ironwing 1 year ago

Just wanted to update here.

We were able to narrow down the issue when I saw the first line in the boot environment cmd window.

"This KBE was built with KACE Media Manager v. 8.2.36.9 on 9-28-2021 at 9:45"

We made a couple of configuration changes in SDA and tried to create the USB stick from Powershell and it failed again.

Finally, I downloaded Rufus and was able to download the ISO and put it onto the USB stick. That is what ended up working.

Long story short. The built-in USB installer from KACE was broken.

Thanks to all for trying to help a guy out!
